Cars need to be fixed, gates made, and machines repaired. So of course Kirkuk has its share of mechanics and machinists.

(By the way, here's an Idaho/western colloquialism: more 'rural' folks out west enjoy dropping the 'to be' verb from sentences, so that the first phrase above would be said, "Cars need fixed." I've heard Boise people say things like, "That fence needs painted," "That car needs washed," etc.)
